Stone Nut

The Machine Floor consists of a vertical pit wheel driving the horizontal line shafts, which in turn drive the stone nuts to the four sets of millstones.

 

The pit wheel also drives a pulley to the first floor which provides power to the sack hoist and dressing machine.

 

The controls for starting and stopping the waterwheel are also located in the machine floor.
